Minister Dacic meets with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK

The meeting was held in the context of the upcoming regular session of the UN Security Council on UNMIK, planned for 22 April, and the Report on the work of UNMIK for the last six-month period.

They discussed the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the atmosphere of increased tension, which was continuously created by Pristina with the aim of further expelling the Serb population.

Minister Dacic expressed his concern regarding Pristina’s recent unilateral moves, especially after the abolition of the dinar, and in the context of the highly sensitive security and political situation in the province.

He reiterated that, as was the case so far, Serbia was committed to de-escalation, preservation of peace and the compliance with the agreements reached to date, of which the EU-facilitated Brussels Agreement from 2013, which envisaged the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, was still waiting to be implemented by Pristina.

Caroline Ziadeh emphasized the importance of holding consultations ahead of the Security Council meeting, as well as that the United Nations fully supported the dialogue conducted with facilitation of the European Union, calling on the actors to constructively engage in the fulfilment of the obligations assumed.

Furthermore, Ziadeh thanked Serbia for its support to the work of and openness to cooperation with UNMIK, as well as for the continued support regarding the continuation of the undiminished activities of the UN mission on the ground.
