Tokyo: Ambassador Kovač takes part in the Female Governors and Mayors Conference in Japan
Ambassador Kovač was one of the participants of the session titled “Active participation of women will reshape this country”, together with Ambassadors of Ghana and Nicaragua, President of the Tokyo’s Suginami municipality, and Mayors of Nasukarasuyama, Nogi and Tokushima.
Speaking about the policies Serbia had undertaken for the purpose of further empowerment of women, Ambassador Kovač informed the other attendees of the legislative amendments adopted for Serbian parliamentary and local elections which had introduced the electoral gender quota, and their positive impact on the representation of women among legislators and decision-makers, as well as Serbia’s contribution to the achievement of full gender on the national and global level.
In her courtesy visit to the host of the conference, Mayor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike, Ambassador Kovač, together with the Ambassadors of Mexico, Bulgaria, Finland, Ghana, Mali, Uganda and Nicaragua, discussed initiatives which would, in collaboration with local self-governments in Japan, raise awareness and strengthen the cooperation in the field of gender equality.
The conference ended with the adoption of the Declaration of Female Governors and Mayors in Japan.
