Yerevan: Courtesy meeting of Ambassador Panajotović Cvetković with the Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church
Aside from congratulating His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II on his appointment as the first resident ambassador and on his desire to carry out a successful diplomatic mission in Armenia, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II spoke to Ambassador Panajotović Cvetković in a positive light about the Armenian-Serbian historical and Christian ties, his personal friendship with the Serbs, the importance of the Armenian community in Serbia, but also about turning a new leaf in bilateral relations between Serbia and Armenia by opening the Embassy of Serbia in Yerevan.
Ambassador Panajotović Cvetković thanked him for the kind words and blessing for further engagement in Armenia and conveyed greetings from the Serbian Orthodox Church, on which occasion she agreed on the existence of close and good relations and cooperation between the two countries, its institutions and churches.
She also recalled the first ties between Serbia and Armenia after the trip of the Serbian prince and the first archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava back in 1218 to Cilician Armenia, ever since the ties and influences of the two sides have become intertwined, especially in terms of church construction.
The Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church assessed the status of relations between himself and the Serbian Orthodox Church positively and conveyed his greetings to the Serbian Orthodox Church dignitaries.
The interlocutors discussed the importance of protecting cultural and religious heritage and the need to strengthen trust, dialogue and reconciliation, which is particularly important for the regions in which Serbia and Armenia are positioned.
