Political consultations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Benin were held today in Cotonou, following the official meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, Marko Đurić and Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.

The consultations, opened by the two foreign ministers, were assessed as a significant step toward further strengthening bilateral relations and a continuation of cooperation that dates back several decades, notably to the era of President Josip Broz Tito, through Serbia’s support to Benin and other African nations in their struggles for independence.

The consultations were led by the Secretaries General of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Benin, Dušan Kozarev and Frank Armel Afoukou.

The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of topics of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing political dialogue as well as economic and other aspects of bilateral cooperation.

Both parties agreed that there is considerable potential for deepening relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the fields of defense, agriculture, education, and sports, while underscoring the need for more frequent exchanges at all levels. Special attention was given to the scholarship program for students from Benin studying in Serbia.

Discussions also included possibilities for cooperation and institutional ties between the diplomatic academies of the two ministries.

These consultations reaffirmed the firm commitment of both sides to building a meaningful and mutually beneficial partnership, grounded in the spirit of traditional friendship and solidarity.
