VISA REGIME

ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who are holders of ordinary passports need a visa for tourist visits and stays in Paraguay. A visa is obtained at the diplomatic and consular missions of Paraguay. It is recommended that travellers contact the Embassy of Paraguay in Bern for current information on the visa regime. For tourist visits, passports must be valid 6 months beyond the travel date. The same applies to travels for purposes concerning resident status.
Under Paraguayan law, children under the age of 18 traveling alone must have Permission to Travel Letters from a parent or guardian. In case this document is issued in Serbia, it must be properly certified. If a child under the age of 18 travels accompanied by one parent or guardian, he or she must have a Permission Letter from the other parent or guardian, also certified. A parent traveling with a minor child must have proof of kinship, namely the original or a certified copy of the Birth Certificate.

USEFUL INFORMATION  

HEALTH SITUATION — The Republic of Serbia and Paraguay do not have reciprocal healthcare agreements, so having a travel health insurance is recommended. There is occasional prevalence of infectious diseases, characteristic of the tropics, but vaccinations are not a required to enter the country.

SECURITY SITUATION — It is advisable to avoid large mass gatherings, although protests and demonstrations are mostly non-violent. Crime is present and travellers are recommended to take all the usual precautions. It is not recommended to wear expensive jewellery or technical equipment (video / photo cameras etc.). Police telephone number is 911, and fire and rescue emergency services 131 and 132. Anyone who unknowingly violates Paraguayan laws can be expelled, detained or arrested. Penalties for possession, use or illegal drug trafficking in Paraguay are extremely severe. TRANSPORT — The international airport in Paraguay is Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in the place of Luque, near the capital Asuncion. There is no passenger rail transport. Public transport is well organised in urban areas. Paraguay is a member of the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic of 1949, and in order to operate a vehicle in Paraguay, foreign nationals must have the International Driving Permit issued in accordance with international regulations.

OTHER INFORMATION — Paraguayan customs regulations are very strict regarding the temporary import and export of weapons, medicine or protected animal species. Any cash in excess of 10,000 US dollars and the proof of origin for larger amounts must be declared when entering and leaving Paraguay. The Paraguayan currency is the guaraní. The price of hotel accommodation ranges from 40 to 200 US dollars. Average daily cost of food is between 30 to 70 US dollars.
