Political relations

Political relations are good and are developing in an upward direction. The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the previous convocation, M. Gojković, visited Kuwait on 4 – 6 May 2015. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait, Khalid Suleiman al-Jarallah, visited the Republic of Serbia on 2 – 3 July 2017 in order to hold bilateral political consultations.

Economic relations

In 2020, the total value of trade amounted to 2.805.000 euros, of which exports of the Republic of Serbia were 2.616.000 euros, and imports 189.000 euros.

In 2019, the total value of trade amounted to 3.480.000 euros, of which exports of the Republic of Serbia were 3.259.000 euros, and imports 221.000 euros.

Economic relations between the two countries were very developed until 1990 - cooperation took place primarily in the field of investments where Serbian companies built important infrastructure facilities (military hospitals, a complex of ministry buildings and towers that became a symbol of Kuwait), as well as in the field of defence. However, after 1990 (Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait) there was a decline in economic cooperation. Today, this cooperation mainly takes place through sporadic trade of modest volume, although there are significant opportunities for the development of investment, military and financial-banking cooperation.

The State of Kuwait confirmed friendly relations with the Republic of Serbia by sending emergency financial aid in the amount of 1 million USD, sent to repair the damage caused by the great floods that hit the Republic of Serbia in May 2014 (25 houses were built in flood-affected areas).
