Rodić: Serbia is a country with a future because it preserves peace
He noted that it was the 27th anniversary of the military police operation Operation Storm, which Croatia undertook in August 1995.
The objective of that operation was, in his words, to exile Serbs from their century-old homes, where they had been living even before the times of the Empress Maria Theresa, defending the European borders in the area.
“This was an ethnic cleansing such as had not been seen on the European soil before August 1995. As many as 250,000 Serbs were exiled, without a chance to return”, said Rodić.
He emphasised that the UN Security Council had adopted Resolution 1009, which required protection of civilians and a possibility for Serbs to return to their century-old homes.
“This resolution, as many before, seems to have remained a political act without implementation”, he stated.
Today, as he said, Serbs remembered their suffering at that time, but Serbia was a very different country 27 years later.
“Serbia fosters its history, its memory of the past, the Serbian language, and Cyrillic script - not only to be saved from oblivion, but also for the young people to be proud of it. Our Orthodox Christian faith is expressed in the most beautiful way. Serbia is a country with a future because we preserve peace. This is a strong Serbia, which will let everyone know that there will never be another Operation Storm and that Serbia is ready and determined to defend the home of each and every one of its citizens“, he emphasised.
Each year, we will be stronger, and thus also more capable of preserving peace”, stressed Rodić, highlighting that Serbia, together with Republika Srpska, had been commemorating the anniversaries of the Operation Storm and remembering its Serbian victims.
