Vienna: Ambassador Rodić awarded the Cross of Vozhd Stratimirović

The Centre for Development of Šajkaška decorated Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojša Rodić, with the Cross of Vozhd Djordje Stratimirović for persevering in the attempts for the preservation of Saint Sava’s spiritual values and ideas of the Serbian unity, as well as in gratitude for his contribution in repatriation and interring the Vozhd’s mortal remains in Serbia.

He received the recognition from Professor Ivan Stratimirović, great-grandson of the Vozhd Djordje Stratimirović, Serbian Army Commander during the Revolution 1848 in Austro-Hungary, a General called Vozhd out of deep affection.

Ambassador Rodić thanked to Vozhd’s descendants and emphasised that every recognition means gratitude for what has passed, but at the same time an obligation what needs to be done in the future.

"There’s only one thing left to do, namely to implement the idea on mounting the plaque on the house where Vozhd Djordje Stratimirović lived in Vienna, and to spread the word among our diaspora, the truth about our last Vozhd, because that’s the only way the Foundation, which bears his name, is going to survive," Ambassador Rodić said.

Stratimirović thanked to the Republic of Serbia, President Aleksandar Vučić, Ambassador Nebojša Rodić and President of the Committee for repatriation of mortal remains of Vozhd Stratimirović, Aleksandar Djurdjev, on exerted efforts to fulfil the Vozhd’s last wish and return his mortal remains from Vienna to Serbia. Last year they were interred in the Monastery Vavedenje Presvete Bogorodice (“Presentation of Holy Virgin Mary”) in Sremski Karlovci.

“It was an event of the utmost importance for our family, perhaps even more significant for the Republic of Serbia and Serbian people, because it has been shown that Serbia and its people respect their ancestors, thanks to whom we exist where we are, in Serbia, in a free country, so we can work, live, so that children can be born, so we can make progress", Stratimirović said.

The Centre for Development of Šajkaška is a platform for the improvement of economic, cultural and social essence of the Šajkaška area, which occupies the southeast part of Bačka and is located between four municipalities: Novi Sad, Titel, Žabalj and Srbobran, including 14 settlements.
Last year, President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was awarded the Grand Cross of Vozhd Djordje Stratimirović.
