Washington: Ambassador Đurić with Bishop Irinej of Eastern America
Ambassador Đurić underlined the importance of the existence of the Diocese of Eastern America and pointed out that we can achieve a lot through the conciliar actions of the state and the church.
"The centuries-old presence of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States, founded by our saints and greats, is a pledge for the survival of the Serbian people in the United States, but also a comparative advantage of Serbia and Serbs, compared to some other countries and ethnic communities on this soil. Therefore, it is our responsibility to make our actions here complementary to the centuries-old experience of our Church", Đurić pointed out.
"I am especially happy about the centenary of the founding of the first diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States and Canada, which will be solemnly marked on 6 and 7 November in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania", he added.
Ambassador Đurić also said that in the previous months, great steps had been made in improving cooperation with the church and the diaspora with the help of local dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church on American soil, for which he was grateful to local bishops and clergy.
