Minister Dačić received the new UNHCR representative in Serbia

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, received today the newly appointed representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Belgrade Soufiane Adjali, who presented his credentials and the letter of appointment by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.

Minister Dačić pointed out that Serbia sees UNHCR as an important partner in the humanitarian protection of refugees, internally displaced persons, asylum seekers and stateless persons. He welcomed Mr. Adjali and expressed belief that his term of office in Serbia will be successful and fruitful in terms of further cooperation.

Minister Dačić particularly emphasised the importance of continued cooperation and support by the UNHCR on issues of long-term care for displaced persons in the Republic of Serbia, both refugees from Bosnia and Croatia, as well as internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija. Minister Dačić expressed belief that the international community and UNHCR will continue to support the Regional Housing Programme.

UNHCR representative Soufiane Adjali thanked Minister Dačić for the reception and pointed out that UNHCR and himself personally will continue efforts in issues under UNHCR's mandate and good cooperation with Serbia aimed at improving the rights and position of refugees, internally displaced persons, and migrants on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
