Selaković: Interlocutors in New York praised the Serbian economic progress

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Selaković, has stated that in three days of staying in New York he held 25 meetings, of which 23 meetings with ministers of foreign affairs from different countries and that for today the meeting of the Serbian delegation led by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić with the UN General Secretary Antonio Gutteres has been planned.

Minister Selaković stated that the overall assessment and impression of all meetings was that the interlocutors praised the economic and social progress in general which Serbia has achieved in the previous period and that they were all impressed as well as that Serbia was respected and that many countries from different parts of the world were interested in cooperation with it.  

 

“Many of my interlocutors had already in advance been introduced to the fact that we are one of the fastest growing European economies in the past two years, that Serbia has speedy economic growth but also in the field of infrastructure and in the fight against Covid”, said the Serbian Foreign Minister.

He said that many countries wanted cooperation with Serbia, even those with different perspective from us regarding our southern province Kosovo and Metohija and emphasized that the countries which supported us regarding Kosovo and Metohija affirmed their support additionally during the conversations he had in New York.

“The overall assessment is that we are a very desirable partner and there are many meetings ahead of us for which I am convinced that will be crowned by the organization of our summit in Belgrade on 11th and 12th October when friends from the countries of the Non-Allied Movement will gather again at the location where the Movement itself was born, and Belgrade is that location”, said Minister Selaković.

He stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait had also confirmed his arrival to the memorial event on the occasion of the anniversary of the Non-Allied Movement highlighting that we were well-prepared for the arrival of Kuwait investors to Serbia.

“Kuwait Minister said that the presence of Kuwait investors and their business community were something natural in Serbia”, says Minister Selaković-

He stated that during previous days agreements had been signed and among them there was the Agreement of trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Mongolia.

Asked about when the appointment of the Ambassador of Serbia in Yerevan would be appointed, Minister Selaković said that all these processes had their dynamics, that he had discussed it with the colleague from Armenia and that at the meetings with ministers of foreign affairs of Bahrain and Ghana the opening of the Serbian Embassies in these countries had been discussed.

“In less than a week we will have our charge d’affairs in Accra (Ghana) with the task of preparing and opening of our embassy. We discussed that with Bahrain as well. There is a long list of countries which would want Serbia to open Embassy in their capitals”, says Selaković.

He emphasized that there was an increasing interest of our friendly countries in opening of embassies in Belgrade, which were closed during previous decades.

“That is the evidence of the fact that the policy implemented by our state leadership for seven years and led by Aleksandar Vučić has given serious results and one of the results is that Belgrade becomes again the center of our wider region. This interest of friends from aboard to renew their diplomatic representation office is one of the proofs of such policy and its results”, says Minister Selaković.
