Selakovic: Saint-Savaism is a signpost for the entire Serbian people
Selakovic, who attended the ceremony as a special envoy of the President of Serbia, pointed out that Saint-Savaism, among other things, represented everything that connected us with other peoples, with our neighbours, regardless of religion or the nation to which they belong.
“Saint-Savaism brings together our desire to live together in peace and love, in brotherhood with others. Is there a better place to send this message than here in Skopje? Is there a stronger and more credible way to pledge someone love and friendship than the seal of Saint Sava? I am confident that there is not”, Selakovic said.
According to the Minister, in the moral and spiritual sense, Saint Sava is an unattainable role model for common people, but he is also a compass and a beacon for all Serbs, and all vows of Serbian nation, be they Vidovdan-Kosovo or Orasac vows, were nothing but a fight for defence or renewal of the Saint Sava vow.
“Everything that Serbian people has today is, in a certain way, based on Saint-Savaism. Our statehood is rooted in the political and diplomatic efforts of Saint Sava. Our spirituality begins with Saint Sava. Our national consciousness lives in the spiritual realm established by Saint Sava”, Selakovic explained.
Emphasizing that the spirituality of the Serbian people was integral and indivisible and that Saint-Savaism knew no physical obstacles and borders, Selakovic stated that, therefore, it did not matter whether one attended a Saint Sava Academy in Skopje, Belgrade, Banja Luka, Bijelo Polje, Pljevlja, Timisoara, Chicago, Vienna or Ljubljana.
He reminded of Mihajlo Pupin, whose ancestors came to Banat from Macedonia, and that his mother, according to his autobiography, sent him off into the world after Saint Sava had visited her in a dream.
“Much like Pupin was brought into this world by his mother not only for her own sake, but also for the sake of the whole world, Saint Sava’s mother brought him into this world not only for the sake of us Serbs, but also for the sake of all honourable people of good will”, Selakovic said.
The Head of Serbian diplomacy took the opportunity to thank the Government and the citizens of North Macedonia for the warm welcome and sponsorship of Saint Sava’s Day celebration in Skopje.
At the Saint Sava Academy, the gathered members of the Serbian national community, which celebrates Saint Sava’s Day as the National Day of Serbs in North Macedonia, were also addressed by Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevski and President of the Republic of Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic.
