Đurić: A breath of fresh air in Serbia–U.S. relations
Minister Đurić emphasized that Serbia attaches immense importance to the development of strategic partnership and overall relations with the United States, which remains one of Serbia’s most important foreign policy partners. He noted that meetings with U.S. officials serve as valuable opportunities for regular and open exchanges of views and contribute to greater transparency and the strengthening of mutual trust. He expressed confidence that Serbia–U.S. cooperation, already showing signs of renewed momentum, has a promising future.
The two sides particularly highlighted the importance of economic cooperation, which has significantly intensified in recent years, as reflected in the growing presence of American companies in Serbia and the rising volume of bilateral trade.
Minister Đurić pointed out that Serbia and the U.S. have elevated their relations to the level of strategic partnership in the field of energy—an increasingly vital pillar of their economic cooperation and a driving force for strengthening broader ties. He assessed that the recently signed Strategic Energy Cooperation Agreements will provide strong impetus for the implementation of key priority projects in this area.
Minister Đurić also informed his interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, expressing deep concern over ongoing provocations, intimidation, and violent actions by the provisional institutions in Priština. He emphasized that such actions seriously endanger the continuation of dialogue and called for increased international pressure on Priština to prevent further escalation and ensure conditions for meaningful negotiations.
He reiterated Serbia’s continued support for the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina in line with the Dayton Agreement, including the position of the Republic of Srpska as one of its entities. At the same time, he noted that inflammatory statements and actions by certain senior officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not contribute to reconciliation or the development of good neighborly relations and called for restraint and responsibility from all political actors.
Minister Đurić reaffirmed that Serbia remains firmly committed to preserving peace and stability, and to fostering regional cooperation focused on the future—particularly in the areas of economic development, infrastructure connectivity, and projects of mutual interest.
