29. Aug 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met today in Tokyo with Susumu Kataoka, President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Minister Đurić expressed his satisfaction at having the opportunity to speak with the head of this renowned organization, which for many years has successfully promoted Japan’s trade and investment cooperation worldwide, about ways to further develop economic ties with Serbia and to assist in promoting Serbia as an excellent destination for Japanese investors.

He presented Serbia as the most dynamic and promising economy of the Western Balkans, the result of the strategic vision of President Aleksandar Vučić and the government’s consistent reform processes, expressing his satisfaction that a large number of renowned Japanese companies are already present in the Serbian market.

The Minister noted that economic cooperation between Serbia and Japan is steadily growing year by year, both in terms of trade volume and investment inflows, and emphasized that Japanese businesses can always count on a friendly and supportive business environment in Serbia.

Recalling Serbia’s activities as a member and current Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) in 2025, he particularly highlighted Serbia’s ambition to become the regional leader in innovative technologies, stressing that Serbia is open and ready to work with Japan, a global innovation leader, to attract new Japanese investments in high-tech manufacturing sectors.

The Serbian Foreign Minister reiterated Serbia’s interest in the reopening of JETRO’s office in Belgrade, which would give fresh impetus to the overall development of economic cooperation between Serbia and Japan and provide an additional incentive for Japanese companies to find business opportunities in the country.

The two interlocutors also reflected on the successful visit of a JETRO delegation to Serbia in October of last year, when a large Japanese business delegation had the opportunity to share its knowledge and experience with Serbian counterparts.
