Đurić: Serbia Safeguards National Interests and Builds Cooperation at the Global Level
Minister Đurić emphasized that the second day of the conference was marked by intensive diplomatic engagements, including a meeting with the Minister of External Affairs of India — a country he described as the world’s most populous nation and largest democracy, with which Serbia has cultivated friendly relations for decades. He underscored that India remains a strong supporter of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly regarding Kosovo and Metohija. The meeting also served as preparation for the forthcoming visit of President Aleksandar Vučić to India and his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at deepening cooperation in the fields of economy, science, and technology.
Addressing relations with the United States, Đurić conveyed that he had held a substantive and constructive discussion with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe Brendan Hanrahan, highlighting a shared ambition to enhance bilateral relations and expressing optimism that this year will prove highly positive for Serbian–American relations. Discussions covered energy, regional policy, and the rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
He placed particular emphasis on regional cooperation, noting his meeting with the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council, Amer Kapetanović, and reaffirming Serbia’s commitment to strengthening good-neighbourly relations and establishing a zone of free movement of goods, people, capital and services. He stressed that stable regional cooperation is directly aligned with Serbia’s national interests.
Đurić also reported on productive talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania regarding the enhancement of infrastructure and energy connectivity, modernization of the Belgrade–Timișoara railway line, potential joint energy projects, and the position of national minorities. He further mentioned a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, a country that respects Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, with which there exists mutual support in national and European aspirations.
In discussions with members of the German Bundestag, including a meeting with Adis Ahmetović, Đurić underscored the importance of dialogue with Germany’s leading political forces, recalling that Germany remains the largest source of foreign investment in Serbia — a key driver of economic growth and European integration.
The head of Serbian diplomacy concluded that the Serbian delegation, led by President Vučić, made maximum efforts to ensure that Serbia was duly represented at one of the most significant global forums. He stressed that the central message of all meetings was that Serbia pursues an active, independent and responsible foreign policy, safeguarding its territorial integrity, strengthening economic cooperation, and fostering stability both in the region and beyond.
