Lecture by Minister Đurić to Participants of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies Programme
The Minister emphasized that, over time, these studies have become recognized not only within the security and defence system of the Republic of Serbia, but also within a broader regional and international framework, equipping participants to responsibly manage national security and defence systems in the future, safeguarding the vital interests and values of their respective states in complex geopolitical circumstances.
Addressing key foreign policy priorities, Đurić underscored that the preservation of peace and stability in the region, European integration, and the development of partnership relations with all countries of the world constitute the pillars of Serbia’s diplomatic engagement.
He recalled that Serbia pursues an independent, balanced and responsible foreign policy, and that it builds and maintains relations with numerous partners on the international political stage.
Referring to Serbia’s geopolitical position, the Minister underlined that the country remains consistently committed to a policy of peace, dialogue and the strengthening of regional stability, with particular emphasis on deepening cooperation in the Western Balkans.
As he noted, a stable, interconnected and economically strong region represents a prerequisite for overall progress and an improved quality of life for all citizens.
Speaking about Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić assessed that this issue represents the most significant state and national question and the greatest challenge facing Serbia. He pointed to continuous obstructions by Pristina that complicate the position of Serbs in the southern province. He also recalled the latest provocations by the Pristina authorities directed at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Kosovska Mitrovica, which have caused concern and called into question the status and functioning of one of the most important Serbian higher education institutions in the province.
The head of Serbian diplomacy also highlighted the importance of preserving cultural identity, as well as the efforts Serbia is undertaking to advance its demographic policy, emphasizing that these priorities form an integral part of the country’s long-term development vision and the foundation of future social progress.
Minister Đurić wished the participants much success in their further professional development and engagement, expressing confidence that they will responsibly apply the knowledge acquired in the service of their states and citizens.
