Press release on the fake news in the Nova daily newspaper

05. Jul 2024.
In view of the article in the Nova daily newspaper on the visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs the public that the entire article as well as the main headline in tomorrow's edition of the Nova newspaper is fake news and deliberately worded misinformation.

It is evident that authors and those who ordered this misinformation either consented or intended to spread misinformation about the character and nature of the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation in order to cause political tensions and divisions in our country, to cause political damage to the state leadership of our country headed by President Vučić, and also to make harm to Serbia's reputation in the international community.

We condemn this blatant example of irresponsible conduct in the public sphere. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the authors and those who ordered this misinformation, as well as on all actors on the public stage, to refrain from spreading fake news which can have harmful consequences for state interests at a complex geopolitical time for our country. In particular, we call on them to cease in their attempts to achieve daily political goals in order to increase the readership and viewership of public media with untrue and sensationalist headlines.
