Selaković: Intensify contacts and cooperation between Serbia and Mauritania

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug today in Malaga, in the margins of the International Conference on Human Rights, Civil Society and Counter-Terrorism.

Minister Selaković recalled the traditionally close ties between Serbia and Mauritania within the Non-Aligned Movement, emphasising that Serbia still had a wish and an interest in strengthening friendships with African countries. He stressed the necessity to intensify contacts and to strengthen bonds between the two countries, and invited Minister Merzoug to make an official visit to Serbia.

Conveying Serbia’s interest in improving cooperation with Mauritania in the fields of economy and education, Minister Selaković highlighted the scholarship programme for foreign students “World in Serbia”, and noted that students from Mauritania were expected to apply and participate in it. He also informed Minister Merzoug about Serbia’s economic results over the preceding period, stressing that there was a huge potential for strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

Minister Selaković also talked about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, the status of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, and Priština’s unacceptable conduct regarding its failure to fulfil its commitments under the Brussels Agreement.
