Starović: An insolent provocation by Kurti

20. Nov 2021.
The announcement of the Prime Minister of the Provisional Institutions of Pristina, Albin Kurti, that he would vote for some sort of "unification" of the southern Serbian province with neighboring Albania is an insolent provocation and reflects a clear intention to further destabilize the situation in the region, said the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starović tonight.

Starović told Tanjug that it is high time for the EU "to actively show its position on the inadmissibility of such actions by Albin Kurti by applying punitive measures", since rhetorical condemnations have no meaning or effect.

If this is not the case this time as well, and the punitive measures are again absent, it would be fairer for the European mediators to be silent forever, Starović emphasized.

"The application of double standards to the detriment of the Serbian people is something we are already used to. However, we cannot and will not be left without an answer to the attempts to resolve the national issues of others on the body of our state, while at the same time, at every place and on every occasion, the right of the Serbian people to self-determination is denied. The basic principles of international public law are at the core of the foreign policy of the Republic of Serbia, which makes our actions constant, predictable and responsible, and we expect the same approach from all our international partners", State Secretary Starović pointed out.

In an interview with the Swiss online magazine "Monocle", Kurti said that he would vote for unification with Albania in the future, but only if such a referendum was conducted peacefully and democratically.
