ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia may enter the Republic of Italy if they hold a biometric travel document valid for at least three months after the planned date of departure from Italy. In addition to the travel document, border authorities may request additional documents, such as a return ticket, hotel reservation or invitation letter, and proof of sufficient financial means for the planned stay in Italy.

SOCIAL SECURITY AGREEMENT
The bilateral Convention on Social Security from 1957 is in force, which enables Serbian citizens to exercise their rights from pension (accumulation of length of service in order to exercise the right to pension), disability and health insurance.

USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — There are no special health risks in Italy and no special vaccination is required. It is desirable to have an international travel health insurance.
It is safe to drink tap water.

SECURITY SITUATION — The security situation is stable. However, it is advisable to avoid large gatherings for personal safety. In major urban centers and tourist destinations, as well as on public transportation, extra caution is recommended due to frequent thefts of wallets and personal documents. It is not advisable to leave documents, valuables, or luggage in a parked vehicle.

TRANSPORT — The railway network (high-speed rail system) and road infrastructure are well developed. During a temporary stay in or transit through Italy, travelers may drive a motor vehicle using a Serbian driver's license if they also hold an international driving permit. Persons with registered residence in Italy may use their Serbian driver's license for a maximum of 1 (one) year. After said period, they can exchange it for an Italian driver’s license, in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on the Recognition and Exchange of Driver's Licenses between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy, which entered into force on 17 December 2023. A green card is not required.

OTHER INFORMATION — The official currency is the euro. For bringing in cash exceeding €10,000, proof of the money’s origin is required. Payments can be made in cash or by payment cards.

In some Italian cities, littering, sitting on monument steps, and consuming food and drinks near major cultural and public buildings are punishable offenses.
