Political relations
Bilateral relations between the two countries are good, with considerable scope for further enhancing cooperation in various fields. Political dialogue has been further strengthened and intensified over the past several years. In 2026, the two countries are marking the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries have been held at the level of Assistant Ministers responsible for bilateral cooperation since 2018. The most recent political consultations took place in Brussels on 19 March 2026.
Visits
Visits by Serbian Officials
The then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium on 16 September 2021 to mark the 135th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. On that occasion, he met with Sophie Wilmès, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium, and Eliane Tillieux, President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belgian Federal Parliament.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, visited the Kingdom of Belgium on 4 December 2024, where she met with Peter De Roover, President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belgian Parliament.
The then Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia, Tanja Miščević, visited the Kingdom of Belgium on 29 May 2024. She held talks with officials of the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, including J. Coremans, Director-General for Bilateral Affairs, on Serbia’s EU integration process.
Đorđe Milićević, the Minister responsible for coordinating measures and activities in the field of diaspora relations, visited the Kingdom of Belgium on 2 August 2024, during which he met with representatives of Serbian associations, “Serbika” and “Krug”.
The then Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Momirović, visited Antwerp, Belgium, in February 2022.
The then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivan Mrkić, met with Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, in Brussels in June 2013.
In September 2012, the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, and the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Mrkić, met with Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, in Brussels.
Visits by Belgian Officials
Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation of Belgium, visited the Republic of Serbia on 14 and 15 April 2026. During the visit, he met with Marko Đurić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, and Aleksandar Vučić, the then President of the Republic of Serbia.
Theo Francken, Minister of Defence of Belgium, paid an official visit to Belgrade on 20 January 2026, where he met with Bratislav Gašić, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
Hadja Lahbib, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belgium, visited Belgrade on 23 and 24 November 2023. On that occasion, she met with Ivica Dačić, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, and Tanja Miščević, Minister for European Integration.
Stephanie D’Hose, President of the Belgian Senate; Petra De Sutter, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Belgian Government; and Pascal Smet, the then Secretary of State in the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, visited Belgrade to participate in and support the organisation of EuroPride (12–18 September 2022). During the visit, the Belgian officials held separate meetings with Vladimir Orlić, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia; Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia; and Aleksandar Šapić, Mayor of Belgrade.
Charles Michel, the then Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, visited the Republic of Serbia on 23 and 24 April 2018, where he met with Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, and Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia.
Didier Reynders, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Belgium, visited Serbia on 26 and 27 June 2017 as part of Belgium’s campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2019–2020 term. During the visit, he met with Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia; Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia; Ivica Dačić, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Jadranka Joksimović, the then Minister for European Integration.
Jan Jambon, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Belgium, visited the Republic of Serbia in February 2017. On that occasion, he met with Ivica Dačić, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia. The visit was hosted by Nebojša Stefanović, the then Minister of the Interior of Serbia.
Didier Reynders, the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, visited Belgrade in April 2013, where he met with Ivica Dačić, the then Prime Minister of Serbia, and Aleksandar Vučić, the then First Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia.
Economic relations
Economic cooperation between the two countries is mainly implemented through trade in goods and in this regard there is room for its further development.
According to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total trade in goods with the Kingdom of Belgium in 2025 amounted to EUR 1.1 billion, of which exports from the Serbia accounted for EUR 0.4 billion, while imports amounted to EUR 0.7 billion.
According to data from the National Bank of Serbia, earnings based on investments by Belgian residents in the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2010 to June 2019 amounted to 91.5 million euros, where Belgium reached 30th place among countries with the highest net investments by non-residents in the Republic of Serbia.
Based on data from the Serbian Business Registrars Agency, by 3 June 2020 there were 109 business entities registered in Serbia under majority ownership by Belgian companies or natural persons of Belgian nationality, including: Delhaize, Minel-Schraider, BLOCKX, KENZAI GROUP (Carpetland), СОРА HOME, Uradi sam, etc.
